A new platform from Google is going to compete with Facebook. (Microsoft isn’t even a part of the conversation anymore). Google plus so far…. is doing a poor job.

The premise is that Google Plus allows you to group connections and communicate. Whereas on Facebook, anyone who is a friend can see your posts. On “Plus” you share only with certain groups. Google Plus One takes it one step further. If you have a google profile. It’s like a recommendation engine that combines features of bookmarking, and facebook groups with Google’s powerful search capabilities which is particularly useful when using some of the Google apps on your smartphone.

The great thing is when you’re doing your searches and type in, let’s say “Orlando Real Estate,” my contacts would pop up and say Brian recommends this, or with Chinese food, Brian recommends that based on all the times that I surfed the web and gave my + rating to a business or service. Clicking the plus one is like a recommendation engine.
The marketing implications are huge for developing local clientele. Local web traffic triples. 60 percent of my friend Brady Pevehouse’s traffic (he’s a terrific real estate agent in Orlando) to his website is coming from Orlando rather than all over the world. So when he looks at Google Analytics the maps are a lot more appealing.

Right now the service is just by invitation. All you need is someone who’s already got a Google + account (say me) to send an email to your gmail. Leave a comment on this post and I will.

So you’ll start seeing those +1’s all around the web now. The bottom line is you’ll get in front of more of the people you want on the web. It’s still in its infancy but people are starting to take to it.
