I only found out about APLive’s streaming to iPhones and Blackberry a few days before. But as many of you who know me know, I’ve been streaming to phones since November of 2005ish with iProgram’s first endeavor to a Samsung A920 (followed by a Sanyo, Nokia’s, Treo’s, etc.). But iPhone and Berry nope. So we had dusted off the old mobile encoder to see if it still worked and simultaneously streamed in Quicktime (rtsp protocol) and windows (http) from a single laptop. Of course you need Helix and Windows media encoders to run simultaneously with enough bandwidth – but assuming you got it, and now with LiveStream’s feat? Well – the race for live off-deck content on your phone is BACK ON!!!!

Debra Kaufman of MobilizedTV, which I urge you all to start reading (I get dozens of new media newsletters but only two mobile ones, FIERCE and Mobile Marketing Daily – now this), got it right. You can read the article by clicking on the Toy Guy image above. And speaking of Toy Guy Christopher Byrne, well this was nothing new as he was live on phones from the New York Times Center during Toy Fair with a Huge Transformer and promos for IRONMAN 2 all around.

The article is essentially correct in all respects though I would clarify that I would out of curiosity want to know the answer to the big question which is – did Livestream code their way into the iPhone or more likely work out a deal with Apple and Rim and get the keys. This will be shortly revealed. Nevertheless, you can’t argue with perfection and what I saw, Live on my iPhone, we couldn’t have done any better.
