WAITING FOR JETER TO RETIRE

October 18th, 2012 · No Comments · sports

As long as Derek Jeter is in pinstripes – Yankee Fans everywhere will have to be content with a shortened playoff run. It is highly unlikely they will win another championship with this cast of characters, front office, way of doing business.

5 rings of course I would say is worth the price (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009) over 16 years – no team comes close, 7 over all. Of the 27 I only consider 1977, 1978, as rings “I’ve won”, sweated for….

But with huge contracts like Mark Texeira, Robinson Cano, CC Sabathia, and of course let’s not forget A Rod who is now a pariah in this town – it will be impossible to do what say The Baltimore Orioles have done. In fact, I’d say that’s my second favorite team now.

Not only do I like Buck Showalter, but they’ve built a team the way – well – the way Buck Showalter built the Yankees in 1995.

Jeter’s still too good (216 hits leading the majors) at whatever age to retire so the Yankees have to keep a team around him. But I’ve blogged about it before and I’ll say it again – Strip down the Yankees, let’s watch the young players come up – I don’t care if it means we don’t make the playoffs for a few years – let’s build the next generation. CC Sabathia, A Rod and the rest don’t sell tickets by the way. It’s the Yankees mystique that does.

This organization has arrived at the moment they have been staving off like the inevitable decay of the human body (“Woody Allen”). It’s old. Let’s watch Jason Nix, Eduardo Nunez, Robinson Cano, Brett Gardner, Phil Hughes, David Phelps, David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain and the rest.

I don’t want to pay for this brand of Yankee Baseball anymore.
