iPads, iPhones, Live to Phone (only in the U.K.) apparently, and more – HYPE coming your way. Hey man – get out of your card – oh – you’ve got one of those stupid iPads – what are you going to do with that? Right – Hide it under the seat. Or maybe by a custom designer case for it first….. Then hide it under your car seat.

Today I was on Brighton Beach watching a Russian Cultural heritage performance. Incidentally it was also the Puerto Rican day parade. So after the performance (I have lots of cute pics and videos), I continually am looking at my iphone trying to google anything – any news story that I can so I can catch the Germany vs. Australia World Cup match.

Obviously – there’s the bandwidth problem – OF COURSE. So I’m looking at Google and seeking the following sites that are all reporting on the search terms I entered which specifically were – “WORLD CUP LIVE iPHONE”. I quickly sifted through articles, though in Brooklyn even something like this on an iPhone takes minutes – and quickly realized what I was looking at. You see – they’re “technically allowed” to claim or say – WATCH THE WORLD CUP LIVE ON YOUR PHONE – just as long as they put an asterisk or do some Ricky Ricardo type “splaining” soon after.

That’s why you read this column.

I saw “Watch the World Cup Kickoff Concert Live Online” on Mashable

ESPN 2010 FIFA World Cup Of course this was useless – why not just go to espn mobile instead of wait ten years for the app to download.

World Cup Live on iPhone in UK – This was only in the UK.

Slingplayer sucks, it didn’t work, other apps didn’t work – I spent hours wasting time doing this – instead of either watching Germany romp 4-0 over Australia (which I did on Telemundo in Spanish later – can you say GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

But it sure looks good at a press conference or in a mock up on the web. Remember – I know a little about media strategy, public relations and well….. let’s just say showcasing products, brands and content in their best light.

I remember when Mike Tyson entered the ring to beat up Michael Spinks to Public Enemy’s “DON’T BELIEVE THE HYPE”. If nothing else – do yourself a favor and save yourself some time – and I say this as someone who wishes MOBILE VIDEO would work beyond a few minutes.

It DOESN’T – the closest I’ve seen is LiveStream – and that’s only on certain smart phones. Which is again – on only 30 percent of the market. Data offload is a real problem. Too many people want it. And they can’t give it to us quick enough….

But they sure can sell it to us.
