The Face of Government Gridlock

The Face of Government Gridlock

John Boehner (at least as long as a Democrat is in the White House that is).

Let me start by saying that I am a politcal independent. I have actually worked on campaigns for both the democrats and the republicans and am issue oriented in my voting. That said, this time around I voted for Obama as I could see no possible rational for voting for Romney.

After watching Face The Nation with Bob Schieffer this past Sunday morning it came as no surprise that the public sentiment is that this is the worse congress in generations. 38 votes on Obamacare and no agenda other than trying to wreck it for the Democrats.

How about this.

Republicans lost the election. Whether you love Obama or not the Democrats won and should have the right to implement their programs. Republicans can try again in four years and if the Grand Old Party wins, they should have the right to implement their programs. That’s not to say there shouldn’t be vigorous debate, questions, committees etc. Let’s get the best BI PARTISAN legislation that we can produce and see the results.

There are always going to be winners and losers but hopefully the idea behind a democracy is that there will be significantly more winners than losers. I just don’t see that grinding government to a hold is a solution for anything because even if the Republicans win the White House in 2016 (unlikely unless it’s Christie Christie / Marco Rubio), the Democrats will do the same thing and we’ll never get anything done.

If this is the future of Democracy, we’ll have to come up with another term for a government that rules its people by doing nothing.
