The Death of a Life Insurance Salesman is sad. This New York City based Daddy Blogger enjoyed working at New York Life though I could see how hard it would have been to become one of the 3 percent that make it in the business. I was trained by Denis Gogh, one of the best and still – it was not easy going.

As more and more people turn to the internet for insurance products, the need for the insurance salesman, particularly life insurance sales, is becoming dramatically and swiftly diminished.

Like video killed the radio star, so to is the Internet putting the life insurance salesman out of business Cheap quotes, massive advertising budgets and long sales cycle means that it is harder than ever to make it as a life insurance salesperson.

No wonder I still get a few emails a week from Insurance Companies or their recruiting arms asking if I’d be interested in going to work (on commission) for them. That, my wife says, is “selling on an empty stomach”. She is right of course.

So the companies are trying to lump in the Insurance Sales Person’s ability to sell other financial products as well. After 2008 who needs a financial adviser?
