STREAMTV – VARIETY SHOW ON MNN HOSTED BY BRIAN MCLANE

Back in 2003 I still had a cable show that ran regularly on MNN called StreamTV. The premise was that there were four segments and a band each week including Life, Art, Rock and Tech. I have a crate full of VHS that need to be converted (again?) to digital. It was a lot of fun and it ran for four years.

I would always have a lifestyle segment for instance going to watch the Met Opera in Central Park, Art where I would usually get to some gallery or rave, Rock (band of the week) and tech where we would explore some new technology or try something interesting – usually a lot of streaming media gadgetry.

It was before I met my wife and had kids and living in Manhattan was just more conducive to grabbing content. All I would have to do is walk down the street and stick my head inside some gallery opening and I’d come out with a few contacts, some of whom I still speak with today.

Often I would take the camera when going out to clubs or bar lounges and you never knew what we would come up with. From the East Village to Hells Kitchen, from Williamsburg to Upstate New York, there were always good times and I’m thinking of doing a special to reminisce.

There were many celebrities on Stream Tv including Lloyd Kaufman from Troma, Sylvain Sylvain from the New York Dolls and many others. Our travels took us to Orlando, Las Vegas and Nashville and we grabbed content everywhere.

One thing is for sure. I had bands from all over sending me videos and I was getting invited to shows everywhere. Great times. Miss it. And it’s good to have so much of my life chronicled. I really want my kids to see as much of me as possible and be able to enjoy those times all over again when I’m older.

A few weeks back I met with a friend at an old haunt, Arturo’s on Thompson and Bleecker not having been there for over a year. As soon as I walked in there was Tony behind the bar and Tami holding court by the window. It was a Stream TV moment. And I hope to continue to have them.
