Real Unemployment Numbers – 90 million Americans are “not in labor force”.

August 20th, 2013 · No Comments · Social Commentary

90 million Americans are “not in labor force (not working nor sought a job). It can be argued that “true unemployment statistics” are continually hovering at 23.3 percent on a month by month basis.

It should be pointed out that this number comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Who are these people? And why at the same time is the BLS saying that the unemployment rate is only 7.3 percent?

– Americans age 16 and older
– 36.5% of the workforce are not Men
– 115,000 jobs lost in August
– overall the labor force dropped by 312,000
– discouraged long-term jobless workers dropping out of looking for work altogether
– Workers whose unemployment benefits have run out
– the “under-employed”
– seasonal employees counting as “employed”.

Brian McLane has been unemployed and looking for a permanent job for over 7 months and blogs about it at www.brianmclane.com.
