Powerball dreams

All you need is a dollar and a dream. Emphasis on the dream.

First I’d like to know. Has there ever been a Mega Millions winner in New York? Well…. actually yes. 21 times to be exact and one of them for 64 Big ones (that’s 64,000,000 or sixty-four million dollars) in Bay Ridge.

When it comes to these lottery games I have a few questions and observations. I guess my first question when it comes to Powerball and the Mega Millions is How come NYC never wins?

Next is an observation. When I go into a candy store to break a twenty (which is about all I ever do there as I don’t need to buy a newspaper anymore), I sometimes have to way while some poor soul is spending 20, 30, 50 dollars on lottery tickets. They don’t look dressed well enough to be able to even afford this.

What is worse is when they then grab a handful of scratch offs and stand there looking extra hard after realizing they’ve lost. How sad.

The big winners are of course the State.

As ConvergEx’ Nicholas Colas explains, “Lotteries essentially target and encourage lower-income individuals into a cycle that directly prevents them from improving their financial status and leverages their desire to escape poverty.

I play a dollar every once in a while – that’s it.
