It doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was out all the time. Many a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night a group of us would get a table at Selena on W 23rd and crowd around it. Selena with its long bathroom lines…

One of my favorites was Uncle Nick’s Ouzaria up on West 50th and 9th Avenue with its flaming cheese. Back in the 80’s there were limos. On one occasion I was at The Limelight with the Band Simple Minds who had just played Radio City and I was fortunate enough to be in the entourage that night.

From The Limelight to The China Club (when it was on West 75th Street). I sat in the middle of the whole band on the ride up from W 21st to West 75th. How awesome.

When I lived on West 56th I had my cousins Dave and Yael upstairs and we both took turns hosting big blowout parties.

So whenever I see a limo go by I can’t help wondering where the people in it are going or what they’re doing. A part of me wishes I was invited but I know I don’t have the stamina anymore. I did it, hard (though not always right) for many years. And when I walk by some of these old haunts, some of them gone or turned into something else, it’s like I flash back in time and wonder what happened to all those people. I can almost hear the partying in my head, echoes.

But the party is over.

Now – I have one of those every day…. it’s called kids.
