HAPPY NEW YEAR

January 1st, 2011 · No Comments · Social Commentary

2010 is almost done.

What a year. It was incredibly rewarding but at the same time perhaps the most challenging I’ve ever faced. The accomplishments were many, as were the hurdles. But like they say no pain no gain.

We’re all healthy. Biggest thing you can ask for. We’ve all had our moments but for the most part, we’re all in one piece and showing only slight signs of wear. We are a sturdy and durable lot.

The biggest accomplishment by far was seeing Nodari arrive at JFK with his mother. It had been the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for my wife to bring him here since I met her. Shorena’s life would was truly complete when the four of us stood together for the first time at JFK.

The biggest disappointment was Grand Central Media Productions going out of business.

Which indirectly led to the second biggest achievement of 2010 which was going on the New York Life Website and clicking on the careers tab. A few months later, and after a rigorous screening processing, I was passed the New York State Exam for Life and Health (1055).

The baby has grown and I must admit I wasn’t prepared at all for what fatherhood would be like. Then again no man ever is and I was repeatedly told this. One of the things I’ve tried to do is to upload the photos from each month to my personal picasaweb site and I created one for my daughter as well which is http://www.sofiamclane.com.

Other notable accomplishments were paying off the balance of my $25,000 credit card debt which had taken my ex-wife and I 5 years. I also finally had the intestinal fortitude to get rid of my iPhone which was like a bad habit. We went to a Yankees playoff game (they won). We know what happened after that but you can’t win every year.

We hung out with my sister in New York. Mandy released a music video “Thank You” which you can see here. We went to Florida for some R&R as well as an awesome Thanksgiving get together with family. The only cousins Sofia and Nodari haven’t met are Uncle Keith, Aunt Lauren and cousins Julianne and Madeline – so we have some things we already want to do in 2011.

Shorena wants to go to school to study physical and occupational therapy and we want to visit Tbilisi if possible.

We’ve reconnected with some of my friends for a change, and have seen others from the neighborhood here in Brooklyn move on to new things which makes me sad to some extent. But things change, situations and circumstances change. For some reason, I don’t feel like I ever do. I’m still essentially the same person I’ve been for the last 10 or 12 years.

All in all since I’ve met Shorena, we’ve been on an exciting ride (definitely never boring). One thing about us and our family here in Brooklyn, Florida, Republic of Georgia and beyond, we get things done and never give in. Sometimes we require a little luck and a helping hand from God, but we never seem to be wanting for that.

So here’s a video from our New Year’s celebration taking a few minutes before the ball dropped. It’s a terrific snapshot of what life is like for the core family members here on Kings Highway, 2010/11. Brian, Shorena, Nodari, Sofia, Uncle Nodari, Papa and Deda.

I hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve and have as terrific a 2011 as you want it to be.

Cheers.
