FROM TBILISI TO THE BRONX, FROM REAL MADRID TO NEW YORK YANKEES

Took Nodari to the Yankee Stadium Last Night. It was the first time I’d been there I’m ashamed to admit since the old stadium came down. And I had a Real Madrid fan with me. But it wasn’t Christiano Renaldo that Nodari was screaming for…. it was Phil Hughes.

With Sofia being an infant and the stress of just getting by the Angels (while Shorena was in labor), I had a tough time. I couldn’t get to the stadium for the playoffs. In the words of Kevin Nealon “I know you’re pregnant but what about me?”

Flash forward a year later – Sofia McLane will be 1 year old – and Nodari is here to enjoy the playoffs with me. So – I got tickets for the first home game which turned out to be the clincher against the Twins.

The new Yankee Stadium is terrific. Big, clean, designed so that there aren’t a million people walking in front of you all game. So Nodari and I got to see it together for the first time. It was sobering coming out of the 4 train tunnel to a big scrap yard that used to be the stadium I know for many years and had season tickets at.

Our seats - basically the same as in the old stadium when I had season tickets from 2000 to 2006

But then the new stadium appeared and we couldn’t push our way through the throngs quick enough.

Needless to say, Nodari and I had an amazing time, with one great moment after the next during a 6-1 win, with all the usual trimmings. Boisterous Yankee fans yelling, Nodari quickly following suit, plenty of “Asshole chants” for unlucky twins fans, 2 homers by Marcus Thames and Nick Swisher, and a near lights out performance by Phil Hughes.

Here are some photos from our first Yankee game together and a surprise video of one of my more memorable moments from the old stadium where I started my very own A&*H^& Chant that the whole stadium picked up on.

Ahhhh….. good memories – and now – New Ones. That’s what’s so great about life. It’s okay to leave stuff behind and move on, because there’s always more and better things coming, and new memories to be made!

When you’re a Yankees Fan – Life’s Good. Just look at the satisfaction on this face!
