CYBERBULLYING and YOUTUBE VIOLENCE

September 8th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Social Commentary

As you may already know, my wife Shorena is pregnant with Sophia who is due to join us at the end of October. I was originally going to write about a show I saw earlier in the day called “A Place Of Our Own.” The topic was what parents can do to train their infants to sleep through the night.

But a few hours later I saw a disturbing documentary on MSNBC tonight that was like a car crash, and very hard to watch. But I heard the word MySpace and being as I’m in technology, and soon to be a father, I wanted to know what to look out for with TEENS GONE WILD!!!!

This was insane – the level of brutality and violence that exists in – you got it – white middle class suburbia!!!

A couple of things I took from this however. First, I will be watching my daughters use of the internet, closely. In fact, I will test her by signing up for some bogus myspace account and seeing if she’ll take the bate and befriend me. Then I will explain to her the do’s and don’ts and what to look after.

I will make it a point to meet her, regularly after school, and when it comes time to her first cell phone?? I’ll be going through that bill.

Finally, she’ll start training in Mixed Martial Arts from the age of 6 so that she’s able to defend herself. I’d be really interested to know if anyone else is having these same thoughts.
