ANOTHER TRADE SHOW! LET THE ORGY OF SPAM BEGIN!

April 2nd, 2010 · No Comments · Social Commentary

What the hell is going on?

The other night on Nova I saw a fascinating program called RAT ATTACK where every 48 years, a part of southeast Asia is overrun by millions and millions of rats that destroy crops but it only happens once every 48 years. If you google Rat Attack you’ll see it and it’s interesting. If you have good stuff – the people will find you – okay Justin Bieber is harmless spam because it’s everywhere – a human strip mall, while Lindsey Lohen is the sociological equivalent of annoying spam?

We have something similar in the digital world – Spam. And it seems to coincide with Trade shows. I’m going to a couple, participating in a few. Obviously it’s not the organizers fault because I voraciously devour all info related to the event and the panels or exhibits in particular of interest to me. I get spammed on Skype, I get spammed on LinkedIn – there’s no where to hide from the Rat Attack of Spam.

I don’t know how these guys do it but they do it. They get a list of all the attendees and the floodgates of spam are open. Auto Show, Comicon, Shoe Shine Show, I don’t care… all I know is that all of a sudden my inbox is being flooded by unwanted spam. So, What to do? There are certain programs like Spam Arrest that can help filter out all the unwanted crap. The only problem is you have to beg all the people that are in your outlook or webmail contacts to fill out a captcha and hope they do it.

Then – how are you supposed to Spam them?
