How can the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame call itself Hall of Fame anything with the following bands missing from its roster.

KISS, Genesis, Def Leppard, Rush and Cheap Trick?

Here are just a few reasons why I personally think that this museum is a disgrace:

There are too many acts inducted every year and many of them aren’t rock. Soul, R&B, whatever, NOT ROCK. The people who run it essentially came up with a brand and market it in the same way. I spoke with them once about mobile marketing and they said they had no money. What a joke. In the beginning, this was a great idea but now the entire process is total BS. I respect many of the artists. At least open it up to the music writers and bloggers who vote just like in baseball. Look at this ridiculousness.

My first rock concert was KISS at the Garden. My favorite album growing up was KISS Alive II and one of my three idols was Ace Frehley (whom I met at the opening of the Hard Rock in Manhattan with Velvet Revolver). Ace was late for his interview which I was conducting and smashed but as soon as I started asking him about KISS – 100 percent professional. What a legend. Kiss has been awarded 24 gold albums to date.[2] The band has sold more than 40 million albums in the United States, of which 19 million have been certified by the RIAA,[3] and their worldwide sales exceeds 100 million albums.
When they came out with their first anthology DVD, Gene and Paul were the Masters of Ceremony at the Halloween Parade in NYC and my buddy Mike was doing their PR tour. He got them to personally sign a DVD to me (one of only three they signed). Paul said… “Tell your buddy Brian that if I see this on ebay I’m going to find him and kick his ass.” Yeah, sell my autographed KISS DVD… fat chance. I’d sooner sell my sister.

Supposedly they were nominated this year but I wouldn’t know because I don’t pay attention to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

Yeah Phil Collins can be a little bit annoying with playing everything and being everywhere. Remember for Live Aid he played at Wembley and flew across the Atlantic so he could play in the US too? Genesis are among the top 30 highest-selling recording artists of all time with approximately 150 million albums sold worldwide so let’s keep them out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame… that makes sense. No personal Genesis stories. Missed out on a Phil Collins SMT.

DEF LEPPARD (yes that’s how they spell it).
Def Leppard Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
I was never a huge Def Leppard fan but their songs somehow always turned up on my mix tapes for these great parties I threw when I lived on W. 56th Street. As one of the world’s best-selling music artists, Def Leppard has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide, and have two albums with RIAA diamond certification, Pyromania and Hysteria. They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. Had a drink with Joe Elliot at Seppi’s bar in the lobby of the Parker Meridian Hotel. Nice guy.

My cousin James has a DVD of them rocking in Brazil for their 30/30 tour (as in 30 years) in front of get this, 65,000 people. I was fortunate to have the time to actually sit and watch a Rockumentary on Rush. What an incredible group with an incredible story, as well as the best musicians at their particular instruments in the world. Geddy Lee? Alex Lifeson and the master – Neil Peart. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. Rush’s sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band. It’s okay Jon Stewart belittled the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for them but they really couldn’t care less. Had a chance to be back stage at the Garden but had too much work. How stupid was that?

CHEAP TRICK - Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

With too many singles to even list, let’s just say the band was also ranked #25 in VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. Perhaps the best pure songwriters in the entire bunch. Have gotten close to meeting them several times but not yet.

I think the evidence is clear. These bands are immortal. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is about hype and marketing.

Thank God the Sex Pistols (one of my other favorite bands – search previous posts) got it right and refused to show up. Note the word STAIN and WE’RE NOT COMING in Johnny’s note.

I like how ABBA somehow made it into the ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame, whilst bands such as Def Leppard, Genesis, Kiss, Cheap Trick and Rush haven’t even been given the time of day. For a start, these are actual ROCK BANDS, not pop groups who had 2 great songwriters and 2 good looking girls to belt out their tunes because they themselves couldn’t sing.

Other bands such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smiths, The Cure and many others haven’t been included. Absolutely ridiculous but nobody takes it seriously anymore anyway.

The Smiths were responsible for the entire Britpop movement, have one of the greatest songwriting duos of all time and have influenced a list of bands that almost doesn’t end. They’ve even influenced artists in the heavy metal and hip-hop genres.

I have to agree that the rock and roll hall of fame sucks. How can something call itself the rock and roll hall of fame that inducts pop musicians or performers such as madonna into it while at the same time leaves out such groups such at “Grand Funk”.

This is obviously a bullshit scam created just to make money of ignorant people who don’t know anything about rock n’ roll.

What about Heart also, Steve Miller Band….I will boycott and past it on. Thanks
