I’m beating the official press release to the punch. So if you’re a reader of this blog, you’re getting the news first and straight from the horse’s mouth.

A few nights back I reached out to Richard Lloyd, the famed guitarist and co-founder of legendary band “Television” will be playing the part of the Jailer “Ramos” in Europa. It was totally a fluke and one of those happy confluence of circumstances that had both Richard and I on Facebook at the same time. I took a shot, and he said why not?

It was that simple.

He read the script, gave me his number and we talked for about an hour. I called him up just because it was the opportunity to talk to someone of his stature. Another time I did this interestingly enough was with Robert Picardo of Star Trek Voyager (“the Doctor”) who also expressed interest in the project – as did Cheetah Chrome.

We’re both alumni of Stuyvesant High School and I trudged the same halls at 345 E. 15th as he did only when he was there, there were no girls. Regardless, I figured this is like getting to call Patti Smith, or Deborah Harry so there was nothing to lose. But it went a lot further than that. He got it from the beginning and we spoke for an hour.

Met him today and we walked to a studio where some of the cast was gathered to do some scene work. Richard and I went into a lounge and went through his parts only a couple of times. He added some lines which I think are going to get some big laughs, he had me roaring.

I’m not going to say much more other than, if you can get the chance to see Richard Lloyd on a stage (not on Conan O’Brien, or some big venue), take it. He’s that cool.

Here’s an ULTRA RARE clip that I found of Television on YouTube from 1993. There’s not much footage around so enjoy.
