Recently I heard about a new voice.

Rebecca Herlich.

My dad is an Opera Singer, Armand McLane and both my grandfathers are musicians of no small repute. Ralph McLane is likened to being the “Babe Ruth” of Classical Clarinet and Jan August’s Legacy as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th Century is cemented.

I have their DNA and an ear for talent. And I have found someone that I would like to make you all aware of.

Her name is Rebecca Herlich and BOY can she sing.

According to her Myspace Page, Rebecca is studying at The Eastman School of Music. She has performed the role of Cherubino in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Erika in Barber’s Vanessa among others. She has a musical theater background and has studied acting at Stella Adler, as well as at Lee Strasberg Institute.

Somehow she’s also managed to attend The Manhattan School of Music Pre college program for eight years yet looks like a kid. She speaks Russian and French…..

While Rap and Electronic, Nickelodeon Pop and Corporate Rock have garnered the lion’s share of the musical dollar, it is refreshing to think that there are new talents such as Rebecca who make Opera sexy and continue the tradition.
