I miss Germany. It’s been a while since I’ve been there. Actually not since my last marriage was I in Baden Baden when I enjoyed riding on the Romantische StraBe and going to Munich, and a lot more. The only times I really get my fix of German anything are when visit my friend David and his wife Kerstin (which we’re doing on July 4th for a barbecue) and when I get information and updates on a German Artist whom I met at a Gallery in Chelsea some years back. Her name (Ihre name auf deutsch ist) is Claudia Schmacke.

Though she doesn’t talk much about herself and there are few press materials out there about here, the Berlin Artist is gaining in popularity. Here is an excerpt from a review by Gregory Volk. Though verbose, it is about as accurate in detail as you will find.

“Through several attention grabbing appearances in New York group exhibitions during the past couple of years, German artist Claudia Schmacke has received increasing recognition for her sculptures in which water courses through transparent plastic tubing. Even when fairly large, Schmacke’s works have the notational quality of drawings, and although they matter-of-factly disclose their composition and processes, they’re also evocative on many
levels, juxtaposing agitation and repose, desire and restriction.”

A lot of big words, but essentially correct. Click the image above to see her site.

And here’s a link to another blast in the past video which I like to do on Sunday Nights, here is the original version of another German Artist “Nena” with 99 LuftBalloons.
