I can’t believe it. I’m actually sad and feeling nostalgic for Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.

It’s been almost twenty years since I rented Dumb and Dumber from the video store on East Houston Street. Then, while visiting my friend, comic artist Tom Grindberg, I noticed the flick and Jim Carrey’s bowl-head haircut and thought of my son Nodari and his sidekick Gio (his Jeff Daniels). So I asked to borrow it and we watched it over two nights as it’s pretty tough to get through an entire movie with kids.

Of course there were funny gags and the laughs kept coming, but I noticed how good the soundtrack was. The movie never gets boring and has a good mix of slapstick and innuendo. The last scene with the bus load of Hawaiian Tropic girls riding off in one direction as Lloyd and Harry walk off down a desert road was perfect as the credits kick in. The soundtrack is pretty good with One-Hit Wonder The Primitives, Crash Test Dummies and Butthole Surfers among others bands that were holding onto the eighties even as Kurt Cobain was grabbing all the headlines.

Another flick that I love that has the same effect is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas which starred Johnny Depp and Benecio Del Toro as Hunter S. Thompson and Dr. Gonzo. You can almost see the last page of the script as they’ve survived this adventure together and jump in the car as The Rolling Stones’ Jumping Jack Flash kicks in.

Other movies like this are Pretty In Pink and I’m sure some movie with Ben Stiller in it. Yet, those movies were forever ago and I’m trying to think of a comedy other than Puss in Boots that ends with the same kind of buddy outro. From what I’m told The Hangover is really good and of course there are many chick flicks that use the formula. Is it possible that they just don’t make them like Dumb and Dumber anymore?

So I’m starting a thread here and just curious to see What some of your favorite Comedies are, particularly ones that have great endings as the last scene rolls into credits.

Here’s my favorite song from the film “CRASH” by the Primitives.
